Hairdressing – Year 1 (QQI & SEC Junior Trade)

Course Information

This QQI Level 5 award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence through on and off-the-job intensive training in hairdressing theory, practice and skills to work independently and under supervision in a hairdressing environment and or to progress to further or higher education or training.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide effective salon service within a work environment, operating independently while under general supervision.
Hairdressing Science	5N3346
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with an understanding of the scientific principles underlying hairdressing and to encourage learners to develop safe and hygienic salon work practices.
Safety and Health at Work	5N1794
The purpose of this award is to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to promote and maintain safety and health in a work environment.
Reception and Frontline Office Skills	5N1407
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required to carry out reception related tasks and operations as a front line representative in a range of organisations.
Customer Service	5N0972
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide effective customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, operating independently while under general supervision.
Communications (M)	5N0690
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate verbally and nonverbally in standard everyday tasks and in work-related tasks, operating independently while under general direction.
Work Experience (M)	5N1356
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks independently while under general direction.

Student Services €150, Government Levy €200 (Medical card holders exempt), QQI Exam fees €50

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4. For mature candidates (21+) experience will be considered in lieu of academic qualifications.

Further Studies

Holders of the full QQI Award at Level 5 may progress to Year 2, level 6 (Senior Trade / ITEC) in CityNorth College.
